5 WAYS TO GO GREEN WITHOUT GOING BROKE
Buying a “green” heating system, a hybrid car, or solar panels are sure-fire ways to help save the planet. But if you are looking to Go Green without taking a hit a huge to your wallet, try these five tips.
You can help save Planet Earth and your budget at the same time.
Ditch the hair dryer.
Running hair dryers every day wastes energy. The next time you go to the salon, ask for a haircut that will air dry and still look terrific.
Install a laundry line.
Dry your clothes in the sunshine and fresh air instead of in the clothes dryer and save hours of energy every week.
Clean the old-fashioned way.
Use baking soda, lemon, vinegar, and soap and hot water when cleaning your house instead of caustic chemicals.
Curfew on electronics.
Limit the time you spend each day on the computer, watching television, or running video games and other electronic devices to just two hours. Bored? Head to the library and pick up a free, reusable, book.
Turn down the hot water heater.
Your hot water heater runs all day, heating water even when you are not at home. Turn the heater down a few degrees, especially in summer when you really don’t need scalding hot showers. Willing to spend a little cash to protect the environment? Install a low flow showerhead and save thousands of gallons of water every year. Then, install a water filter on your kitchen faucet and stop buying bottled water. You will likely save enough money on water in just one year to cover the expense of these installations.
